Lane Cove Kitchen

Our client’s previous kitchen was an original 1960’s kitchen with poky cupboards and limited storage. Our brief was to maximise the storage while maintaining the same footprint.

Previously all cabinetry had a large bulkhead reducing the size of the cabinets. We removed the bulkhead, increased the cabinet height and maximised the available storage. By keeping the original footprint we retained the beautiful timber flooring. The floor to ceiling cabinetry creates a streamlined look and a feeling of spaciousness with push to open door hinges and fingerpull handles completing this look.

The overhead cabinets are accentuated at either end with shelving storage finished in Otway Laminex. The microwave cabinet is also finished in this material providing balance on a long wall of cabinetry.

Placing items in the right place was important for the client: microwave in line with the oven, and ample benchtop space surrounding the cooking zone for a seamless workflow.

To create a sense of continuity, we opted for a soft neutral colour palette, allowing the warm timber floors to be a focal point. The clean lines of the cabinetry are complemented by subtle touches, such as the matte finish of the Otway Laminex and the integrated appliances, which contribute to the modern yet timeless feel of the space. Difficult storage problems were solved with the inclusion of a Ninka system by Hafele adding a feeling of luxuriousness.

Overall, this redesign reflects the client’s desire for a highly functional kitchen that feels open and uncluttered, while still offering plenty of practical storage solutions. The updated layout and thoughtful design choices breathe new life into the space, elevating both its aesthetic appeal and usability.
